Growing your money.

Stocks are for the part of your investment portfolio that you want to devote to long-term growth. Of the three asset classes — equities (stocks), fixed-income (bonds and CDs) and cash (money markets and savings accounts) — stocks have the highest risk and reward potential. They generally outperform fixed-income investments, and outpace inflation in the long run. Stocks are appropriate only for long-term goals, because their volatility (the degree to which their prices can rise and fall in a short period of time) can be high.
